Young people in Canada should have easy access to the support they need
What is Integrated Youth Services (IYS)?
Young people ages 12 to 25* may be looking for support in many parts of their lives. This can include help with mental health, substance use, physical and sexual health, making friends, learning important skills, and finding assistance with school and jobs.
They need a place that's easy to find and just for them, with someone who will listen. That's where we come in.
Across Canada, we're committed to making health and wellness services better for young people. We work closely with youth and their families because we know that no single organization can meet their needs. That's why we think Integrated Youth Services (IYS) are a great idea.
* Some providers offer services for youth up to 29 years old.
What does IYS look like?
The IYS model combines health, wellness and social services in one place that is co-created with youth. Services are all in one spot, so young people don't have to tell their stories over and over. The service providers work as a team to make it easy for young people to get the services they need at an IYS centre/ hub.
Common services and supports found at an IYS centre/ hub
When we create IYS centres/ hubs, youth and families are part of the process from the start. They help plan the services, design the space and give feedback regularly. We listen and work with young people and their families to create braver and safer spaces for Indigenous youth, racialized youth, and youth from other underrepresented communities.
Every young person, no matter where they are or who they are, deserves equitable access to the services they need.
Together, we can make this a reality.
